Open-source licences

The frame is built on a lot of free and open-source software, and we thank everyone who wrote it. Here are the components installed on the frame, their licences, and the offer for source code.

The tables are generated automatically from the SweetFrame repository, version 0.3.2 (app/package-lock.json, system/install.sh). Draft, pending legal review

SweetFrame's own software

The SweetFrame software itself (the frame service, its interface, and the installation and update tools) is proprietary: © 2026 TechRS, all rights reserved. It is used under the terms of use. The components below belong to their authors and are distributed under their own licences, and nothing in our terms limits your rights under them.

The operating system and the packages SweetFrame installs

The frame runs Raspberry Pi OS Lite, which is based on Debian. Each package ships its copyright file on the frame itself (/usr/share/doc/<package>/copyright), which is authoritative. Each frame also records its exact list of system packages, with versions and source packages.

libvips and LGPL libraries

The frame processes images with the sharp library (Apache-2.0, version 0.35.5), which loads libvips from the package @img/sharp-libvips-linux-arm64 (version 1.3.4). libvips and several libraries built with it (glib, pango, fribidi, libexif, libheif, librsvg and others) are distributed under the LGPL-3.0-or-later. They are distributed unmodified, as separate shared libraries loaded at run time, and you may replace them with your own build. [The information needed to install your own version on the frame (Installation Information): to be completed] Source code: github.com/libvips/libvips; build scripts with the exact version of every bundled library: github.com/lovell/sharp-libvips.

Written offer for source code

For the components on the frame that are distributed under the GPL or LGPL (for example the Linux kernel, labwc, Plymouth, FFmpeg, libvips and libheif): for at least three years from the last time we supplied a frame or an update containing the component, and in any case for as long as we offer spare parts or support for this model, TechRS will give anyone who asks a complete, machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code, for a charge no more than the cost of performing the distribution. Requests: [email protected], with the frame's version (Settings → About).

Some of the source code is also available directly: Debian packages at sources.debian.org and in the snapshot.debian.org archive (including old versions), Raspberry Pi packages at archive.raspberrypi.com (which keeps only recent versions), and libvips at the links above. The offer above applies in any case, including to the exact versions on your frame. Licence texts: GPL-3.0, GPL-2.0, LGPL-3.0, LGPL-2.1.
